Nr. 295, Billy Idol - Happy Holidays

In AAS spielen wir heute den britischen Rockmusiker Billy Idol (geb. 30.11.1955 in Stanmore, London als William Michael Albert Broad) und sein 2006 erschienenes Album "Happy Holidays". (Das Album wurde 2021 wiederveröffentlicht). Der Künstlername "Idol" geht auf eine Schulzeitbewertung - er verhalte sich oft träge (= idle) - zurück. "Billy" ist die Kurzform für "William". Nach der Schule begann Idol ein Philosophiestudium. brach es aber ab. Statt dessen begab er sich Ender der 1970er-Jahre in die Musik und kam mit der Londoner Punkszene in Berührung. Er spielte in einigen Bands u.a. bei "Generation X". Nach deren Auflösung ging er 1981 in die USA um dort neu zu starten. Er fand dort kompetente Unterstützung u.a. durch den Manager der Band "Kiss" Bill Aucoin. Daraus resultierte ein musikalischen Weiterentwicklung - weg vom Punk, hin zu einer kommerziell tauglichen Rock- bzw. Popmusik. Dies brachte ihm bald einige Welthits wie z.B. (1984) "Eyes Without A Face" ein. Billy Idol's erfolgreichste Schaffenszeit liegt somit zwischen 1982 und 1986. In den Folgejahren legte er immer wieder längere Schaffenspause ein. Bis heute hat Billy Idol 8 (Studio-) Alben veröffentlicht: "Billy Idol" (1982), "Rebell Yell" (1983), "Whiplash Smile" (1986), "Charmed Life" (1990), "Cyberpunk" (1993), "Devil's Playground" (2005), "Happy Holidays" (2006) sowie "Kings & Queens of the Underground" (2014). 2021 erschien die EP "The Roadside".
